DMITRY SOKOLOV MD
Hello and welcome — I’m Dmitry Sokolov,
Medical doctor and founder of Lifestyle Lab UK.
My medical journey began at the Faculty of Medicine at Riga Stradiņš University in Latvia, where I graduated as an MD in 2004. I went on to complete my Residency in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care in 2010, and subsequently began working as an anaesthesiologist.
Since 2013, I have been serving as a Consultant Anaesthetist (equivalent to an Attending Anaesthesiologist in the US) at one of the largest university hospitals in the United Kingdom, working with complex surgical and critically ill patients.
In 2022, I further advanced my training by earning certification in Lifestyle Medicine, receiving the Physician Certificate and Diploma from both the International Board of Lifestyle Medicine (IBLM) and the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine (BSLM).
My mission is to bring evidence-based, high-impact lifestyle strategies into clinical practice — helping people take control of their health, energy, performance, and longevity with clarity and confidence.
WHY lifestyle?
With full respect for modern conventional medicine — a system I am proud to serve within — it’s important to recognise its origins and greatest strength: managing acute illness and emergencies.
And in this domain, conventional medicine is extraordinary.
Acute trauma, stroke, heart attack, cardiac arrest, severe asthma, allergic reactions, — these and many more are conditions in which our state-of-the-art hospitals excel and save countless lives every day.
Yet despite remarkable advances in medical science, pharmaceuticals, and technology, we face an unsettling reality: chronic disease continues to rise at epidemic levels worldwide.
Cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, cancer, obesity, dementia, and other leading causes of mortality are deeply influenced by how we live — how we eat, sleep, move, manage stress, and connect with others.
And while conventional medicine can help manage complications, true prevention and sustainable recovery require addressing these root causes through thoughtful, evidence-based lifestyle interventions.
Shifting the paradigm
This is precisely what Lifestyle Medicine addresses: the root causes of chronic disease. By targeting these underlying drivers, it becomes possible not only to prevent and control chronic conditions, but in many cases to meaningfully halt or even reverse their progression.
Traditional healthcare has necessarily evolved as disease-centred care. The primary focus is on diagnosing and treating illness — most often through medication or procedures. In this model, patients often take a more passive role, relying heavily on medical intervention and the healthcare system for outcomes.
Lifestyle Medicine represents a shift in paradigm.
It places the person — not the disease — at the centre of care.
Rather than focusing solely on suppressing symptoms, we work to uncover and address the true origins of disease — through evidence-based changes in nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress management, environment, and social connection.
Patients become active participants in their health, building skills, agency, and autonomy — while clinicians guide, support, and co-create a sustainable plan for long-term wellbeing.
